Overview

The School of Law, UCC, gives opportunities for placements both within the workforce and at linked universities worldwide.

Work placements with our placement partners in the professions can be through your degree programme, e.g. the BCL (Clinical) and the BCl (Law & Irish), or through the Summer Placement Scheme (See below).

University placements are arranged through the BCL (International), BCL (Law & French) and the BCL (Law & Irish) degrees.

The School of Law at UCC continues to support and assist its students during the summer period by operating a student placement in conjunction with various professions in both Ireland and abroad. The purpose behind the scheme is to offer law students an opportunity to experience the workings of an office or courtroom where they might choose to pursue a career after graduation. The UCC Law School has particularly strong links with practitioners in Cork and arranges annual placements with local solicitors and barristers. These placements offer students the chance to observe and at times participate in the legal process in operation in Cork. Placements within Ireland also include solicitors' offices in Dublin, the Refugee Legal Service and the Attorney General's office. The scheme is currently being expanded to incorporate placements in non-traditional career paths for law graduates. In addition the placements scheme has a number of links with the legal system in the USA. Students can apply to be considered for a summer placement with the Los Angeles Federal Externship programme, the Los Angeles Juvenile Dependency court, the Public Defender’s Office in San Francisco and the Electronic Privacy Information Centre in Washington DC.
