Roy Foster Lecture

Roy Foster Lecture

  • 06 Dec 2013

Last night, to a thronged lecture theatre in UCC, Professor Roy Foster of the University of Oxford delivered an enthralling lecture entitled ‘Never so simple and clear again': The Memory of the Irish Revolution. The lecture drew upon material in the final chapter of his eagerly anticipated book on the Irish revolutionary generation of c 1890-1916. The book will break down the inflexible or hagiographical way in which key figures have been presented, highlight the way that circles of activists overlapped and interacted, and emphasize the importance of ideas from outside Ireland, and foreign parallels.

The lecture was followed by a reception to mark the official launch of UCC’s exciting new MA in Irish Studies: Identities and Representations, and the end of a busy but enjoyable term.
