Cormac O'Grada talk on 'The Death of the Ice Age' – 7:00pm, Kane G01
23.01.2012

Cormac O'Grada, professor of economics at University College Dublin, will be giving a public lecture entitled 'The Death of the Ice Age'. The talk will deal with the 'Little Ice Age', a dramatic period of global cooling from the Middle Ages until the 19th century, whose winters saw European crops destroyed by encroaching glaciers and the River Thames, New York Harbour and the Baltic Sea locked in ice.

Prof. O'Grada is one of Ireland's leading economic historians, author of hundreds of articles, and a member of the Royal Irish Academy and the Cliometric Society. He has written numerous books on famine and climate, and his book 'A Rocky Road: The Irish Economy since Independence' remains the definitive work on the economic history of 20th century Ireland. We hope to see you at what promises to be an interesting evening from the pre-eminent Irish historian in the field.
