Biography

Helena Buffery, BA, MA (Balliol College, University of Oxford), PhD (University of Birmingham)

College Lecturer

I came to UCC in April 2010 after many years at the University of Birmingham, where I completed my PhD in 1997. My main teaching and research interests are in Hispanic Theatre and Performance, Translation Studies and Catalan Studies, but I've taught many other aspects of Hispanic languages and cultures over the years and am particularly drawn to the diverse instances of intercultural contact and cross-cultural transactions that characterise the Hispanic world.  I am currently the research officer in the department at Cork and organise the research seminars.

I have supervised PhD (11) and Masters dissertations (6) on a wide range of topics, including contemporary women's writing, Spanish Republican exile narrative and theatre, translation reception and applied translation studies.
