Leave of Absence
Postgraduate students wishing to take leave of absence for one year or more from a programme of study are advised that they must obtain advance approval from the relevant College/Faculty. Applications for leave of absence on taught programmes will not be accepted after 26th October, 2007.
Permission for temporary withdrawal may be granted under the following circumstances:
- On health grounds, on consideration of a written medical report;
- On academic or personal grounds, where the relevant Heads of Departments are satisfied that withdrawal is to the advantage of the student.
Research Master’s or PhD students who wish to apply for a leave of absence for one (or more) terms must get a letter signed by their Head of Department, stating the reason for the request. This letter should be sent in the first instance to the Graduate Studies Office. It will then be forwarded to faculty and the Academic Council Graduate Studies Committee. Students will be informed in writing when the reqyest has been formally approved.
