SQT Courses, Dates and How to Apply

The next SQT Course will be running from Monday 18th to Fridday 22nd June 2012.  Course is primarily aimed at state qualified teachers who aim to teach junior students attending summer schools in Ireland. The course is also of benefit to teachers who have students in the regular academic year, whose first language is not English.The cost of the course is €245 (with STC - €295). Email

The workshops were as follows:

  • Understanding English Grammar: An introduction to the main concepts and structures involved and the difficulties faced by non-native speakers of English. (Primary and post primary).  Reading and writing skills in English as a foreign/second language in the mainstream classroom and in language support teaching. (Primary and post-primary). 
  • Developing techniques and materials to help to integrate non-national students in the mainstream classroom (including simplifying teacher language, use of visual aids, boosting student language, effective error correction techniques, subject specific vocabulary and web resources) Primary and post primary.  May 25th 7 - 9
  • Using Information Technology: this one-hour workshop will provide teachers with an overview of technology and websites that can assist in helping to integrate non-native speakers of English successfully in the classroom.
  • Workshop for secondary school resource teachers providing English language support. (Participants please send in a description of challenges that you are currently facing in your English support teaching, one week before this workshop. 
  • Workshop for secondary school teachers with non-native speakers in their mainstream classrooms. (Participants please send in a description of particular challenges relating to language issues that you are currently facing, one week before this workshop).
