Applications are invited for the post of senior research fellow for the MARINERG-i_PP project at the Environmental Research Institute, MaREI Centre for Energy, Climate and Marine, based at University College Cork (UCC). The world is transitioning to more sustainable energy sources and offshore renewable energy has the potential to make a significant contribution. MARINERG-i is developing a plan for an integrated European Research Infrastructure, an independent legal entity, designed to facilitate the future growth and development of the Offshore Renewable Energy sector. This will involve developing a sustainable, “on-stop-shop” network of testing facilities, with common practices, standards and scientific strategies, offering a range of services via an online e-infrastructure.

The MARINERG-i_PP project will support the preparatory phase of the MARINERG-i Distributed Research Infrastructure (DRI), which was successfully placed on the ESFRI 2021 roadmap. This project will enable the DRI for the implementation of services, preparing the necessary strategies, plans and negotiate contracts; develop the tools, standards etc. and undertake trials of the procedures and services the DRI will offer; and undertake effective stakeholder engagement with potential users and prospective participants and members. The applicant will be expected to lead this project in achieving it’s aims and goals and maintain the wider MARINERG-i trajectory on the ESFRI roadmap (to achieve sustainability within 10 years). The applicant will also be required to lead, and co-ordinate appeals to multiple government agencies and stakeholders to secure additional membership as well as engaging potential participants (testing infrastructures).

With the above in mind, the applicant must have extensive understanding of the ESFRI roadmap process, preferably have made an application to or prior experience in management of a project on the roadmap. The applicant must have demonstrable experience in managing large, multi-national and multi-disciplinary projects. The applicant must have excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.

The successful applicant will be a PI on the project, working alongside Dr Jimmy Murphy, Senior Lecturer in the School of Engineering and a Funded Investigator in the MaREI Centre at UCC. The successful candidate will join a vibrant and international MaREI research community of more than 220 multi-disciplinary researchers and will take full part in MaREI Centre events including industry and research**.** S/he will also manage doctoral students and a post-doctoral researchers at UCC’s Environmental Research Institute.

 

The researcher is expected to publish independently and together with the Environmental Research Institute team, present research papers at workshops and international conferences, and contribute to popular dissemination of the research results.

Salary: Senior Research Fellow Salary Scale: €77,029 - €82,666
