Dr. Owen McIntyre of the Faculty of Law and Environmental Research Institute, UCC just been designated as a member of the Scientific Committee of the European Environment Agency (EEA), in the area of European and International Environmental Law.  This would appear to be the first time since the establishment of the EEA in 1990 that a lawyer has been appointed to this body.  The main role of the Scientific Committee is to assist the Management Board and the Executive Director of the EEA in providing scientific advice and delivering professional opinion on any scientific matter in the areas of work undertaken by the Agency.  A maximum of 20 members are appointed to the Scientific Committe, which is intended collectively to cover the widest possible range of disciplines. Members are identified through an open selection process and are designated in the first instance for a period of four years.
