MA in Irish Writing and Film: Theories and Traditions
The MA consists of two parts. In Part 1, which runs from September to March, students complete the requirements for 3 modules:
EN6012 Irish Writing & Film
EN6010 Preparing for Research
EN6015 Contemporary Literary Research: Skills, Methods, Strategies
Part 2, EN6017, involves researching and writing a dissertation of 15,000-17,000 words on a topic agreed by the student and their assigned supervisor. The dissertation is submitted in early October.
EN6012 Irish Writing and Film Subject Unit
The module will discuss the traditions of Irish writing, culture and film, addressing key texts and critical issues at different historical moments from 1800 to the 2000s. It will investigate work by major authors and also offer the opportunity to study a selection of texts and topics in Irish film and literature. Students explore the principal characteristics and conceptions of Irish culture as this is formed, represented and contested in literature and film up to the 2000s. Topic areas may include:
