High Resolution Mass Spectrometry Laboratory
The recently opened Waters-ABCRF High Resolution Mass Spectrometry
Laboratory provides high
resolution mass spectrometry services to the Analytical and Biological
Research Facility (ABCRF), the Department of Chemistry, and associated
internal and external users. We have well established links with the
chemical and pharmaceutical industry in the Munster region and
educational institutions throughout the country. The mass
spectrometry group specialises in the characterisation of compounds
within the mass ranges of 50-2000 Da. Equipment includes two new mass
spectrometers from Waters/Micromass: an LCT Premier Time Of Flight
instrument and a Quattro Micro triple quadrupole instrument. Both
instruments are set up for high throughput Liquid Chromatography Mass
Spectrometry (LCMS) and will prove to be a significant addition to the
facilities at the ABCRF and the Chemistry Department.
Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry
A recently installed Varian GC-MS system
(CP-3800 GC coupled to Varian 2000 MS) is also available for
automated and fast method development. This instrument is part of the
Centre for Research
into Atmospheric
Chemistry
(CRAC).
