Welcome to the Bachelor of Education, (Hons) Sport Studies and Physical Education
Welcome to the Bachelor of Education, (Hons) Sport Studies and Physical Education website. The B.Ed. (Hons) Sport Studies & Physical Education is one of three programmes in the Republic of Ireland offering a professional pathway in Physical Education, and the only programme to offer a major sequence in either coach education, health and physical activity or Comparative Studies.
The programme integrates sport discipline knowledge, an education major, second subject specialisation, practical activities and experience. Our aim is to produce the best educators in the education and sport field.
The four year B.Ed. (Hons) Sports Studies and Physical Education degree programme aims to embed the study of sport within a positive, humanistic frame of personal and social values, which will celebrate the rich potential that sport and PE can have for all. The course aims to present sport as a highly significant domain in Irish culture and highlight the value it can and should have for Irish society. This degree programme is unique in that it takes both scientific and humanistic approaches to sport and provides a rich foundation for professional coaching and the teaching of sport and PE.
The B.Ed. (Hons) Sports Studies and Physical Education degree has been fully ratified by The Teaching Council of Ireland as providing appropriate qualifications for teaching in several subjects. Please contact the School of Education for more details.
