What will I study?
Our objective in the Department of Economics is to provide you with an excellent education in Economics at university level that will open up attractive career opportunities for you and will aid your own personal development.
The BA (Hons) in Economics at UCC, is a structured and coherent programme. It develops your knowledge and skills of Economics through Years 1 and 2 and then allows you to specialize in Year 3.
The following are the courses that we offer in each year:
Year 1: The World of Economics introduces you to the types of issues and questions that Economics explores, the language that Economists use and the way that Economists think.
Year 2: We focus on important questions and issues that affect us as individuals in our daily life and that affect business operating in the Irish economy and in the global economy. We also develop your reasoning skills and your analytical and writing skills.

- Developing Skills for Economic Analysis
- Reasoning & Persuasion in Economics
Year 3: We offer a range of courses in your final year*. Depending on your career plans you can combine these courses to specialise in one of the following:
- Business Economics
- Financial Economics
- Competitiveness & Innovation Economics
- Health & Evaluation Economics
- Political Economy
