Certificate in Achieving Competitiveness: Enterprises, Regions and Nations

The Certificate in Achieving Competitiveness (CAC) is intended for people who need to enhance their abilities to think clearly and strategically about competitiveness issues whether at firm, region or national level and/or the interaction between them in a sustained way over a long period of time.

The CAC anchors practical tools of analysis within an understanding of the process of economic development in the knowledge economy to ensure practitioners can take away immediately applicable individual tools and techniques of analysis to enhance their capabilities and skill set.  By understanding the role of such techniques in a coherent framework for practical thinking practitioners can retain them, reflect on them and develop them over time based on their experience in applying them.

Through a reflection on practice and practical analysis using international Case Studies (drawn across all major regions of the world), participants will develop an understanding of the principles for achieving competitive advantage in the knowledge economy.

The programme has been approved by FAS under its Competency Development Programme and attracts grant support of up to 60% for private sector companies and commercial state companies.

In the Department of Economics’ commitment to a life-long learning approach, this Certificate Programme is one element of the Department’s Competitiveness Studies Pathway.  It will lead to a Diploma (Managing Competitiveness: The Irish Challenge) to be introduced in 2007.  These Programmes open the opportunity to pursue an M.Comm by research on a part-time basis.  Following Masters qualification candidates may pursue doctoral level studies in the Doctorate in Business Administration (Business Economics).

This Programme is validated by the National University of Ireland - University College Cork and corresponds to Level 6 of the National Framework of Qualifications.
