Pre –Entry
On a general level, prospective students with a disability should consider carefully the career implications of the degree programme they wish to pursue in third level. It is important to think carefully about the career choices open to you before choosing a third level course. Are you choosing a particular course because of any of the following?
- You wish to continue with a subject you enjoy and in which you excel at?
- You wish to start a new subject that you have investigated and one that you believe you will enjoy and remain interested in over the duration of your studies?
- You want to experience a new educational environment, particularly one that introduces you to a wider range of courses, work placements, sport, clubs & societies and people that you have not experienced so far?
- You are looking to the future and want to invest time and effort so that you can access a particular career area requiring this qualification?
- You think that as a person with an illness, disability or specific learning difficulty (SpLD), you will have more career options open to you if you have a third level qualification?
When investigating options for further study, consider all options open to you. As well as degrees there are other channels to further enhance your studies and self development such as:
- Further Colleges of Education (FETAC) http://www.ucc.ie/en/study/undergrad/how/fetac/
- Certificate and Diploma courses on offer in Institutes of Technology
- Distance learning and part-time education
- Whatever your option, make sure that it best suits YOUR needs
- All of the above can be discusses at Individual Advisory Sessions for Pre-Entry Students
Please note if you are a mature student with a disability, you will enter UCC through the Mature Student Route www.ucc.ie/mature and not the Disability Access Route
