IT Experience Programme for Transition Year Students
Computer Science offers an exciting Work Experience Programme for Transition Year Students. Students have the opportunity to learn about the broader aspects of Computer Science including the BSc degree course in Computer Science offered by UCC. The programme is run several times each year and has been a resounding success. It is hosted in the Computer Science Outreach Lab in the Western Gateway Building, UCC. The first programme normally takes place in November followed by a second programme in February.
The schedule for the “IT Experience” programme includes:
- Multimedia & Web Design – explore computer application areas, the magic of computing.
- Programming – introduction to programming
- Introduction to Digital Logic – work with the building blocks of computers
- The Systems Administration Experience – configure PC hardware and software
- Applying for entry to the degree programme at UCC
- Career opportunities in Computer Science
To secure a place on the programme, students must be nominated by their school. Due to the popularity of the programme, places are limited to one student per school. It is advisable that nominees have a genuine interest in computers and information technology.

Only applications received on an official application form will be considered. When returning the completed application form, the school should include a copy of the school’s Insurance Indemnity. Successful applicants will be notified by letter, to their schools, in October each year.
