Why study Computer Science?
Although you may not realise it, computer technology permeates almost every aspect of modern life and has a profound impact on how we live. For example, could you manage without your mobile phone? Can you remember your social life before Facebook? Or Twitter?
Of course, you can USE the Internet but do you know HOW it works? If you shop online, how do you know if it’s secure? Do you know where your emails go?
If you upload photos to Facebook, do you know how these digital images are created? Do you know what sound is? How can huge volumes of music fit on an MP3 player?
Learn how humans relate to computers and technology. Why do some ideas succeed but others fail?
As part of a Computer Science degree, you will acquire a comprehensive skill set including:
- specific IT skills such as programming, systems architecture and 3-D modelling,
- soft skills such as teamwork, negotiation skills, time management, creativity.
