CACSSS Research

U.C.C. Research Showcase Month

The research carried out in the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences (CACSSS) is as wide-ranging and as diverse as the College itself. Every academic staff member of CACSSS, despite heavy teaching loads, is involved in research and research production.

Research in CACSSS, as in any other major institution for the Humanities and Social Sciences, is still primarily focused on the work of individual scholars. This work eventuates in the numerous books, journal articles, essays, reviews, performance-based texts and events, and other modes of research dissemination generated by the work of the College. In recent years, however, greater levels of collaborative research have also been fostered. New projected research projects and clusters promise to widen the College’s palette of collaborative and interdisciplinary research.

As the College meets the challenges of a newly competitive research environment, it has begun to develop its provision of research administration and support. A new CACSSS Research Centre is due to be opened in the O’Rahilly Building in late 2011. A new Research website is being launched during CACSSS’s first Research Showcase Month in September 2011. This brochure serves to highlight events planned during the Research Showcase Month while also marking the initiation of a more cohesive approach to research administration and support.
