Welcome to the Identities Cluster
Understanding identity and the process of identity formation constitutes a core feature of socially engaged research within the areas of Humanities and Social Sciences and is centrally important to future development within Irish and European society. The ‘Identities’ research cluster, based in the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences brings together many disciplines, interdisciplinary programmes, centres, Institutes, and international partnerships.
Identities can be theorised as social, cultural and political processes that are fluid, unstable and ongoing, and there are multiple theoretical tools available as a way of understanding identity formation and its impact on individuals and communities at the local, regional and transnational levels. Our multi-faceted activity which has established the University as a centre of excellence in this field can be divided into a number of substantive themes and projects in the humanities, arts and social science.
