History

Liberator was Daniel O’Connell and not Daniel O’Donnell? Did you know that the original Red Army was not a group of Manchester United supporters and that the Blueshirts did not refer to the Chelsea football team? The study of history at UCC will not only dispel the myth that the Great Dictator was not alluding to your mother but will also train you to gather and to interpret information and to interrogate diverse points of view. History prepares you for a number of career paths by the variety of topics in history offered to students, for example social and economic history, political ideologies, modern diplomacy, history of law, media, art, women, government and many more.
Former graduates have pursued careers in politics (Micháel Martin TD); in journalism, (Helen Callanan, former editor of The Sunday Tribune) and in professions as varied as film historians, copy-editors, teachers, and entrepreneurs.
