English

Studying English in UCC can mean anything from learning to appreciate the structure of medieval poetry to analysing the ways in which horror films
work. We cover texts from the very earliest days of the written word in English to the most contemporary authors across the English-language
cultures of the globe. Having studied English, you’ll look at the world differently, with a much richer understanding of how culture operates in
society. You’ll also have highly developed skills of interpretation, analysis and communication that transfer to a very wide range of careers and
professions, including print, web and broadcast journalism, public relations, marketing and publishing.

Graduate Profile
Leanne O’Sullivan is the author of two collections of poetry and was awarded the Rooney Prize for Poetry (2010) and the O’Shaughnessy Prize
(2011).
