Transition Year Business Projects
This year is the bi-centenary of George Boole, 1815-1864. Boole was the a mathematical genius and the first Professor of Mathematics at University College Cork. Boole is described as the "fore father of the information age". His legacy surrounds us, in computers, information storage and retrieval, electronic circuits and controls that support life, learning and communications in the 21st century - www.georgeboole.com
George Boole was a self-taught genius and an innovative educational entrepreneur. Building on the experience of your Mini Company/School Bank please outline how you mirrored Boole's entrepreneurial ability and creative genius in your project.
The College of Business and Law at UCC in association with Cork Chamber invites Transition Year students to submit a 1,500 word project based on the above topic. The competition is once again kindly sponsored by the Bank of New York Mellon who will provide €1,000 to the winning school. Runner up prizes will also be available e.g. 2nd place €500 and 3rd place €250.
The closing date for receipt of entries was Friday 1st May 2015. Participating students and their teachers attended the adjudication and prize giving ceremony in Aula Maxima, University College, Cork, on Thursday 21st May 2015 at 5.00pm.
The 2015 winners are:
- 1st Place: “Changes“, Bishopstown Community School, Cork.
- 2nd Place: “Cúpla Úlla”, Nagle Rice Secondary School, Doneraile, Co. Cork.
- 3rd Place: “School of Sound”, Tullow Community School, Tullow, Co. Carlow.
