A Welcome Message from the Head of School
Cead Míle Fáilte! ...a hundred thousand welcomes.. to the School Of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences- where you can choose to learn about Geology, Environmental Science, Zoology, Ecology and Plant Science, on a single site in the North Mall Campus. The School is a student-centered organisation where high quality courses are delivered by research active staff set in a beautiful ‘green oasis’, just a short stroll from the City of Cork.
We offer a wide choice of degree programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate level and we are renowned internationally for the quality of our teaching and research. We are also known for our friendly and accessible staff and our heavy focus on field-based studies. The School runs a number of field courses in Ireland and overseas where students and faculty engage in research-led teaching. We have more than 600 undergraduate students and 130 postgraduate students, including 100 PhD students, currently studying in the School. We offer an outstanding research-led curriculum to all our undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Our undergraduate programmes are in Ecology, Environmental Sciences, Earth Science, Geology, Environmental Plant Biotechnology and Zoology, and postgraduate programmes in Marine Biology, Ecological Assessment and Exploration Field Geology as well as an active Doctoral Graduate School.
