Overseas Students: Accommodation Options and Booking Information

Whether from Ireland or from overseas, students attending UCC usually reside either in student apartment complexes or in shared student houses; the vast majority of students live off campus grounds but are still within a short walk of the university

Book in advance

You can reserve your room before you arrive in Ireland. As soon as you have accepted an offer of a place in UCC, you should contact us to book your accommodation. This can be done through your own university or you can contact us directly.

If you are applying through your university please contact your program coordinator. If you wish to apply directly to our office please see the following webpage: Overseas Students - How to Book Accommodation

  * Booking in advance is strongly recommended*

Accommodation Options

  • Student Apartments
  • Student Houses

Student Apartments:

Rent for the 39 week academic year is to be paid in 1 or 2 installments, the first before arrival, and works out as 62-130euro per week.  Bills (electricity, heat, etc) are usually paid by deposit and any unused amount is refunded on expiry of the letting agreement.

There are a number of modern apartment complexes situated near UCC or in Cork City centre, which are rented exclusively to students. They are very popular with both Irish and International students.  If you choose a twin room you will be sharing the bedroom with a student of the same gender; single rooms are bedrooms for one student only.  Ensuite means that you will have your own private bathroom.  You will share the kitchen and living areas of the apartment with between 2 and 5 other students. Most apartments are mixed gender but you can request single gender apartments.

If you would like to book a room in one of these complexes please see the following webpage to apply online: Overseas Students - How to book Accommodation.

Student Houses:

Many houses in the residential areas around UCC are rented to students.  These are usually shared by between 3 and 8 students.  Rent for a single room is usually 80-90euro per week and is paid to the landlord every month or 4 weeks; bills are usually split between the housemates.

If you choose to live in a shared student house you can search for a room once you have arrived in Cork .  A limited number of houses around UCC will have vacancies in September and January; lists of vacancies are available at the Accommodation Office, 6 Carrigside, College Road . You will have to contact the landlords and make appointments to view each house.  As there is a variety in the facilities and quality of the houses available, we recommend that students view as many houses as possible before making a decision.

If you arrive in Cork without having secured accommodation, the staff in the Accommodation Office will give individual attention to overseas students arriving at the office at 6 Carrigside, College Road, Cork.

 * Be prepared to spend 3 or 4 days looking for accommodation as demand is high*

All housing managers, landlords and landladies will request a booking or security deposit: this is refunded on expiry of the letting agreement provided all bills are paid and there is no damage done to the property. Please note that your reservation is not secure until your deposit has been received by your accommodation provider.

Couple/Children

While most student accommodation is designed for single people, reflecting the needs of the majority of our students, some units accept couples and/or children. Again, the earlier you seek accommodation, the greater chance there will be of finding suitable housing in a convenient location. If you require accommodation as a couple, or for children, please contact the Accommodation Office directly.
