Your path to .... Applied Psychology: The new BA (Hons) Applied Psychology
10.03.2011

The newly accredited BA (Hons) and associated HDip present a more focused, modernised and re-structured programme, reflecting research- and practice-led teaching of the highest quality. An accredited BA represents the first step to becoming a professional psychologist. Upon successful completion of the degree, graduates will be eligible to apply to enter postgraduate training programmes in their chosen specialisation and ultimately gain employment in their area of expertise.

Programme Structure

The diagram provides an overview of the BA (Hons) Applied Psychology Programme. Essentially the three-year degree can be broadly summarised as follows:

Year 1: Coverage of areas at introductory level in addition to Science and Practice.

Year 2: Coverage of all core areas at advanced level in addition to Professional Skills.

Year 3: Coverage of application of core areas in addition to substantial empirical dissertation and research lead optional courses.

To be eligible for the award of the BA (Hons) degree a student will be required to have achieved 180 credits by obtaining 60 credits in each of First, Second, and Third Arts (Applied Psychology). A student may not register for more than 60 credits in one academic year. Study in Applied Psychology accounts for 150 of 180 Credits in total.

To be eligible for the award of HDip in Psychology a student will be required to complete 120 credits, obtaining these from modules available in the Second and Third years of the BA programme. The award of the degree with Honours or equivalent is dependent on satisfactory performance in all modules taken in Second and Third Years. First year marks do not contribute to the final degree. As the re-structured BA (Hons) Applied Psychology is now a single-subject degree the assessment of psychology modules constitutes 100% of the final mark.
