Medicating Human Distress: Concerns, Critiques and Solutions
A conference on Medicating Human Distress: Concerns, Critiques and Solutions will be held in UCC on Wednesday & Thursday, Nov. 16th & 17th, 2011. The conference is organised by the School of Applied Social Studies and the School of Nursing & Midwifery, UCC, in association with Critical Voices Network Ireland.
The conference will run from 9 am to 5 pm each day and will be held in the Brookfield Health Sciences Complex, (College Rd., Cork).
PLEASE NOTE THIS CONFERENCE IS NOW FULLY BOOKED.
The conference follows on from last year’s successful conference in UCC on mental health. Please find attached below a one page overview of the conference as well as the conference programme (a four page document).
This year's conference will address and consider:
The use of medication as the dominant response to distress in mental health care;
Medication withdrawal concerns, strategies and solutions.
Last year’s conference saw the launch of the Critical Voices Network Ireland (CVNI) which is a network of people interested in considering and developing responses to human distress, which are creative, enabling, respectful and firmly grounded in human rights. The afternoon of the second day of this year’s conference has been set aside to discuss the ongoing work of the CVNI.
