Mark Tangney

Biography

Mark is Professor in Education for Enterprise, Head of the iEd Hub https://iedhub.ie, Principal Investigator at Cancer Research@UCC and Funded Investigator at APC Microbiome Ireland.

With a PhD in microbiology and an MBA from UCC, research interests include associations between bacteria and cancer, development of microbes as cancer therapeutics; in silico protein design and synthetic biology. He has secured €20 million in funding.

Mark has previously worked at various international institutions (Los Angeles, Boston, Copenhagen) and has published extensively in the fields of cancer, gene & cell therapy and microbiology.  Mark has served on the executive council of the International Society for Cell and Gene Therapy of Cancer (ISCGT), a scientific committee of the European Society for Gene & Cell Therapy (ESGCT), the council of the Irish Association for Cancer Research (IACR), and as Vice-President of the Irish Society for Gene and Cell Therapy (ISGCT). He is also a member of the editorial board of several international journals.
