John Kenny
Biography
Dr John Kenny is a Senior Research Officer at the Teagasc Food Research Centre, a Funded Investigator at the APC Microbiome Ireland SFI Research Centre, and an Academic Collaborator with the VistaMilk SFI Research Centre. He completed his BSc and PhD in Microbiology at University College Cork, Ireland. A post-doctoral position at the University of Liverpool followed, using multi-omics approaches to investigate MRSA. He subsequently managed the Centre for Genomic Research within the University of Liverpool, where he led the team applying a range of cutting-edge sequencing technologies. These methods were used to investigate a diverse range of biological topics, including human, crop, outbreak and microbiome research for commercial and research projects.
Research Interests
The work in my lab primarily focusses on the application of ‘omics techniques to better understand and apply food fermentation and bacteriophages. The various projects combine genomics, metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, and metabolomics, and coupling those with new analysis techniques.
