Finola Merivale was the recipient of the 2009 Staf Gebruers Memorial Award in recognition of her excellence in Music at
UCC. She is now pursuing a postgraduate qualification at the University of Leeds.

Calling UCC staff, students, graduates and friends to participate in the Evening Echo Womens Mini Marathon on Sunday, 27 September, 2009 at 1pm in support of the UCC Access Programme. Five individuals who raise the most money will win two tickets each for seats in a corporate box at the Cork Opera House for a show of their choice (Tickets generously sponsored by a donor).

Company, recently presented the final part of a €50,000 corporate
donation to UCC's heritage fund, made over a period of five years.

UCC has launched an Alumni & Friends Legacy Campaign where the University is appealing to and inviting its Alumni & Friends to consider including UCC in their Wills.
Since its inception, UCC has been the beneficiary of many bequests, most notably the Honan Legacy in 1916 which is now used not only for the upkeep of the Honan Chapel but to enable access to the University for disadvantaged students.

Eli Lilly has lent its support to the Cancer Biology PhD Scholars Programme at University College Cork that was funded by the Health Research Board in 2007.

Over 120 graduates and friends from the class of 1959 attended their Golden Jubilee Reunion at UCC on Monday, June 8, 2009. The Golden Jubilee celebration began with a special mass held at the Honan Chapel.

Over 110 graduates and friends of UCC gathered in the Aula Maxima for the 1984 Graduates Silver Jubilee Reunion on Friday, 24th April 2008. Dr Michael Murphy, President, UCC greeted graduates at a reception preceding the Gala Dinner which was held at the Aula Maxima.

The first annual UCC New York Alumni Dinner was held at the Princeton Club in Manhattan on May 6th, 2009.
75 graduates and friends of UCC reunited for a very enjoyable evening. Among the guests were Minister Micheál Martin, TD, UCC alumnus and currently Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Michael Collins and Consul General Niall Burgess.

On Tuesday, 31 March, a group of UCC Graduates (1946-1953), now living in Dublin, visited UCC.
Eileen Kearney of the Glucksman Gallery introduced the group to the history, architecture and current exhibitions at the Gallery.

Billy Holland was announced as the winner of the John Joseph Mc Carthy Prize in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the 2008 Prizegiving Ceremony at UCC on February 23rd 2009, at which 42 undergraduate and postgraduate prizes were presented to 56 prizewinners by Dr Michael Murphy, President, UCC. An outstanding student from from Blackrock, Cork, Billy made a significant contribution to the UCC Rugby Club during his time at University.

The Staf Gebruers Memorial Award, 2008 was awarded to Ms Stephanie Sheehan in recognition of her excellence in Music at UCC. Stephanie received a first-class honours BA in Arts-Music and will continue her studies at UCC where she begins an MA in Music and Cultural History this October.
