Over 120 graduates and friends from the class of 1959 attended their Golden Jubilee Reunion at UCC on Monday, June 8, 2009. The Golden Jubilee celebration began with a special mass held at the Honan Chapel.
Later at the Aula Maxima, Dr Jean van Sinderen-Law, Director of Development welcomed the class back to UCC and spoke about the changes that had taken place at UCC in the intervening 50 years since the class had graduated.
Commerative scrolls were then presented to each graduate by the Heads of College.
Professor David H Cox, Head of College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Studies presented scrolls to graduates of the faculty of Arts. Professor Irene Lynch-Fannon, Head of the College of Business & Law presented scrolls to the faculties of Law & Commerce. Professor Pat Fitzpatrick, Head of College of Science, Engineering and Food Science presented scrolls to the faculties of Science, Engineering & Dairy Science and Dr Will Fennell, Chairperson of the UCC Medical Alumni Association , College of Medicine and Health presented commemorative scroll on behalf of Prof Michael Berndt, Head of College of Medicine and Health to each graduate in the faculties of Dentistry & Medicine.
Following a gala celebration luncheon in the Aula Maxima, classmates enjoyed an afternoon tour of the UCC Campus and the Brookfield Medical Campus. During the day classmates had plenty of time to reminisce on their student days and to re-kindle old friendships. It was a very enjoyable day for everyone. The Alumni Office wishes to thank the class of 1959 for supporting this event and contributing so much to its success.
