BlackBoard VLE
The Blackboard VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) was implemented in 2002 and now hosts over 1000 modules for 800 staff and approximately 10,000 students. Based on a recent student survey, it is used frequently by 83% (i.e. at least a few times a week). UCC Blackboard now plays a significant role in many programmes, both on campus and distance learning for the delivery of content and for communication between lecturers and students.
To-date UCC Blackboard has been used for content delivery and communications. To complete the development of this virtual learning environment we are moving towards incorporating online assessment and student management into the system bringing other technologies and tools we have implemented under the UCC Blackboard umbrella. This will give us a managed learning environment.
