Medical School Pre-Graduation Dinner 2011

The School of Medicine Pre-Graduation Dinner was held in the Aula Max, UCC on the 14th June 2011 and was well attended by large number of the 2011 Graduating Class.   At the dinner, the Medical School Medal was presented to this year’s recipient - Professor Tim O’Brien, Professor of Medicine at NUIG and Director of REMEDI.

Prep for Med School 2011

UCC’s first ‘Prep-For-Med-School’ took place on Friday13th May and was attended by eighty Transition Year students with their Career Guidance Counsellors from across Cork city and county. The day began with a clinical skills taster programme designed by Dr Rob Gaffney, Director of Clinical Skills at the School of Medicine UCC, and based on the Cardiovascular System. Students learned about blood pressure, how the heart works, how to stop bleeding and bystander CPR.  How do you teach medical students to take blood? Using fake arms and fake blood, of course!

Nutrition and Health - Outreach Programme by UCC Medical Students to Primary Schools

As part of a new Outreach Programme, medical students at UCC recently visited local primary schools to  give presentations on nutrition and health.  This novel nutrition Outreach Programme was developed in association with the Alimentary Pharmabiotic Centre, which has a well-developed and hugely popular schools education program.
