Teaching-Student Centred, Patient-Focused, Systems-Based

  • Clinical teaching and lectures take place in the School of Medicine at Brookfield Health Sciences Complex, UCC, Ireland, a new advanced medical teaching facility with state-of-the art clinical skills teaching rooms and equipment including the latest simulation and virtual learning teaching methods.
  • Our teaching staff are experienced and enthusiastic clinicians committed to helping each student attain his optimum potential. The Graduate Entry Medicine Programme has dedicated teachers, co-ordinators and administrative support.
  • The Director of the Graduate Entry Programme is Prof Mary Horgan, Consultant in Infectious Diseases, Cork University Hospital, Ireland, a highly regarded clinician, researcher, lecturer and communicator.
  • Much of the teaching is small group learning with a focus on teamwork and self-directed learning. Methods include sign-post seminars, weekly case discussions, problem-based learning, tutorials and clinical skills and laboratory work-shops.
  • Clinical experience begins from the very beginning in the Graduate Entry Medicine programme in both hospital and community settings. Full-time clinical electives begin in January of Year 2.
  • Cork has excellent teaching hospitals covering all of the major specialities with experienced teaching staff and highly-regarded Specialist Registrar Training programmes.
