Welcome message from Prof David Kerins, Dean of the School of Medicine & Vice Head of the College of Medicine and Health

On behalf of University College Cork, and my colleagues at the School of Medicine, I would like to welcome you to our website. The School offers both a bachelor degree program for school leavers and a graduate entry program. We also offer many opportunities for postgraduate study, research and higher degree programs.

Our aim is to provide doctors of the future with a world class, student-centered education, based on current knowledge, informed by research and with an awareness of societal needs.

Prof David Kerins

The Medical School has grown since its foundation in 1849. Our graduates have excelled in all branches of clinical activity. The School has a strong tradition for distinction in the basic sciences and in clinical training. We apply modern principles of medical education and training in all aspects of our program. We have recently completed a major curricular reform of our that emphasizes greater integration throughout the curriculum; students are exposed to clinical material early in their studies, and maintain their contact with the “basic sciences” throughout their studies.

The School has an active research program and has a focus on the themes of Cancer; Food and Health; Gerontology; Health Services, Health Policy and Population Health; Infectious Diseases; Mental Health and Pain; Neuroscience; and Vascular Health, Diabetes Stem Cell Biology

Welcome once again to the Medical School of University College Cork. We at University College Cork are proud of our traditions and are excited about our future.

Professor David Kerins, Dean of the School of Medicine & Vice Head of the College of Medicine and Health
