Higher Diploma in History of Art
This programme is for individuals who already have a degree, preferably in the area of Arts or Sciences, and who wish to study Art History intensively over one academic year (full time) or two (part time). It is designed for those who:
• have an active interest in the History of Art but do not already possess a degree in the discipline;
• are currently employed in some branch of the arts and wish to obtain an academic qualification in the area;
• require a conversion course to apply for graduate study, such as the taught MA or the MPhil/PhD research degrees at UCC (note that completion of the HDip does not guarantee a place on a graduate programme).
Programme Overview
This is a full-time programme over one academic year during which the student will take courses in the History of Art to the equivalent of 60 credits (for the two-year part-time option, the student will take courses to the equivalent of 30 credits in each year).
The programme is made up of modules from the second- and third-year programmes in the BA degree. The 60 credits will be chosen by the student in consultation with the Higher Diploma Co-ordinator, having regard to timetable constraints and suitability of course combinations.
