James Elkins

Biography

James Elkins was Professor of the History of Art in University College Cork from January 2004 to June 2006. For Routledge (New York) and University College Cork he is the Series Editor of Theories of Modernism and Postmodernism in the Visual Arts (a collection of short books on the theories of modernism and postmodernism by leading art historians on twentieth-century art and art criticism) and The Art Seminar (seven books on theoretical issues in contemporary art). For UCC he is also editing a number of single volumes on topics ranging from W.G. Sebald's use of visual images and representations of pain in art to the university-wide study of images and the current state of visual literacy studies. These publications are linked to the public lectures, round-table discussions, international conferences, theory institutes, and exhibitions that he organised in Cork between 2004 and 2006.
