About the Programme

BACKGROUND AND ORIGIN

This Programme was developed by UCC in response to a request from Enterprise Ireland (formerly Forbairt) through its Prepared Consumer Foods Working Group for a Management Programme for newly appointed graduates in the Food Industry together with established managers and team leaders in the same companies. This is now in its 13th successive year.

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES

The main objective of the Programme is to provide education and training to newly appointed technical graduates and established managers in the principles of good management practice.

Considerable attention will be devoted throughout the Programme to the development and enhancement of the interpersonal and communication skills of the participants.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

NEWLY EMPLOYED GRADUATES AND ESTABLISHED MANAGERS AND TEAM LEADERS IN THE PREPARED CONSUMER FOODS SECTOR.

TRAINING APPROACH

Workshop modules will consist of lectures given by both academic and business practitioners as well as action learning syndicate work and assignments. The lectures and syndicate work will involve work-based, real-life case studies and assignments to ensure the practical application of theory. Additionally, the Programme Management Team will visit participants and mentors in the companies over the duration of the Programme.

ASSESSMENT/CERTIFICATION

Performance will be assessed on a continuous basis throughout the year with a written - open book examination at the conclusion of the Programme. In addition, each delegate must complete an in-company project and complete a learning log.

PROGRAMME ORGANISATION

The Programme will run over nine months and will consist of eight workshop modules, seven of two-day duration and a final workshop of four-day duration, at selected venues around Ireland.

Fees are paid in January 2008.

10,450. The fees to UCC are 7,000 and workshop expenses are paid by the company on behalf of the students.
