UCC President Visit Hanban in Beijing
Dr. Michael Murphy, the President of University College Cork visited The Office of Chinese Language Council International (Hanban) (also the Headquarter of Confucius Institute), on 14th October 2008, in the company of Professor Fan Hong, the Director of Confucius Institute of UCC, and Ms Louis Tobin, the Director of International Recruitment and Strategy of UCC. He met with Madam Xu Lin, the Director General and Chief Executive of the Office of Chinese Language Council International.
Dr. Michael Murphy introduced the recent development of higher education in Ireland and University College Cork, including Chinese Studies, to Madam Xu Lin. He appreciated the support of ‘Hanban’ to the UCC Confucius Institute, which is in partnership with UCC and Shanghai University. Professor Fan Hong, Director of the UCC Confucius Institute, reported the progress of the Confucius Institute in UCC since its establishment in 2007. She also discussed its future plan with Madam Xu Lin.
Madam Xu Lin welcomed Dr Michael Murphy for visiting Hanban. She appreciated the support which the Confucius Institute at UCC has received from the President, the Head of College of Arts and the UMG. She was pleased with the progress of Confucius Institute in UCC. She stated that it has done a good job. She also invited the UCC Confucius Institute to participate in the World Congress of the Confucius Institutes in December 2008 in Beijing.
