The 2nd Hanyu Qiao (Chinese Language and Culture Contest) in Ireland will take place on 2nd May 2009 at UCC. It aims at promoting Chinese language and culture in Ireland. It is co-organized by UCC Confucius Institute and Irish Institute of Chinese Studies at UCC.
Theme
Fun with Chinese, Hope of Success.
Eligible Participants
Non-Chinese native speaker in Ireland.
Content
Chinese language skills.
General knowledge about China.
Chinese culture skills (e.g. Chinese songs, dances, operas, musical instruments, calligraphy, painting, paper cutting, and martial arts, etc.).
Forms
There are two parts of the contest: “Talent Show” and “Quiz”.
Talent Show
Contestants can show their Chinese talent in individual or a group: deliver a presentation or conversation in Chinese, singing a Chinese song, playing a Chinese instrument, reading a Chinese poem, performing Chinese tongue twister, etc.
Quiz
After “Talent Show”, all contestants will be reorganized as different teams to join the “Quiz” that relate to China, Chinese culture, Chinese history.
For those who are interested in Chinese writing, there is also a written contest. Each contestant is required to submit a written paper in Chinese (no more than 350 Chinese characters) by 27th April 2009. The contents of your paper should relate to topics about China including Chinese language, culture and history, etc.
Prize
- There will be 1 First-prize, 3 Second-prize, 6 Third-prize winners; and 12 Individual Award winners.
- All winners will be granted commemorative certificates.
Special Prize
The winners will be selected to participate in the World Chinese Bridge Contest in June 2009 in China. The travel expenses will be covered by Chinese government.
