John Hurst Prize 2009
Congratulations to Patrick Gleeson who has won the 2009 John Hurst Prize for the best MA dissertation on a theme related to medieval settlement in Britain or Ireland. The prize was established in 2004 by the Medieval Settlement Research Group. Patrick's dissertation, which is entitled Constructing Kingship in Early Medieval Ireland: Power, Place and Ideologies of Kingship, was undertaken at the Archaeology Department, University of York, under the supervision of Dr Tania Dickinson. He has now joined the Early Medieval and Viking Research Group in the Archaeology Department, UCC, and has begun a PhD which builds upon his MA. This research is funded by a W.J Leen scholarship awarded by the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences.
