The Department of Archaeology has a long tradition of engagement with local communities in the Munster region, with the aim of promoting understanding and protection of archaeological heritage.
We have long-standing connections with local historical and archaeological societies and regularly provide guest speakers and field excursions to these groups. Many of our research projects have important public archaeology dimensions and contribute significantly to appreciation of community heritage. We also provide support for the teaching of archaeology in primary and second-level schools. The Department also organizes public seminars and lectures
