Introduction:

The teaching of Medicine began in Cork in the 18th century, between 1722 and 1775.  Queens College Cork (later University College Cork) admitted its first students in October 1849 and provided medical teaching from this date.  Dental teaching commenced in 1913 and in more recent years, Nursing, Midwifery, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Pharmacy and Public Health and Health Promotion have been added to the range of professional bachelor degrees offered by the College of Medicine and Health.  The values that the College strives to promote in all its programmes include hard work, encouragement for integrated teaching and learning in the classroom and at the bedside, dedication to research, respect for colleagues, a commitment to the practical welfare of patients, and the development of a well-rounded personality.

In addition to its undergraduate programmes, the College of Medicine & Health provides taught postgraduate programmes at higher diploma and masters level in Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Midwifery and the Clinical Therapies and offers research degrees of M.D., M. Dent.Sci., M.Sc. and Ph.D.
