Translational Health Research Conference 24.6.09

The College of Medicine and Health, in association with Pfizer and The Cork Cancer Research Centre ran a very successful one-day Conference in Brookfield Health & Sciences Complex on 24 June 2009. The conference had over 180 registrants and up to 90 posters.

CANCER: Dr Aideen Long made her presentation on 'Bile Acid Signalling in the Gastrointestinal Tract'

In each category three selected speakers presented their talks. Gold medals were awarded, to the following:

Poster Prize Winners

Prizes were awarded for posters from each of the three categories:

Prof Michael C Berndt and Arif Albulushi

Prof Michael C Berndt presents first prize to Arif Albulushi (Physiology) on his poster entitled, 'Impact of Angiotensin 1-7 on rental haemodynamic and excretory function in anaesthetised normotensive and hypertensive rats'

2nd Prize for Poster

Mary McMahon (Biochemistry) received 2nd prize for her poster on, 'WDR3 is induced by IGF-I and is required for ribosome biogenesis and cell profileration'

Prof Michael Berndt presents 3rd prize to Caroline Browne (Pharmacology). Caroline's poster was entitled, 'Altered tryptophan hydroxylase activity following restraint stress in mouse'
