CALL FOR ABSTRACTS 2011

University College Cork Women’s and Child Health Conference Brookfield Health Sciences Complex, University College Cork Wednesday 22nd June 2011
The College of Medicine and Health is currently inviting early career researchers to submit abstracts of their research studies for oral or poster presentation at the Women’s and Child Health Research Conference being held in Brookfield Health Sciences Complex at University College Cork on 22nd June 2011.
The focus of the conference this year will be on translational research related to the following areas:
1. Foetal and Neonatal Health (Chaired by Dr. Geraldine Boylan)
2. Paediatrics (Chaired by Dr. Deirdre Murray)
3. Women’s Health (Chaired by Prof. Louise Kenny)
Posters will be accepted on ANY aspect of translational research.
Oral presentations will be selected ONLY from the three main themes above.
From the submitted abstracts, three will be chosen per theme and will form the basis of 15 minute presentations. A gold medal (Michael C Berndt Gold Medal for Research Innovation) will be awarded for the best oral presentation from an early career researcher (undergraduate, post-graduate student or early stage post-doctoral researcher) in each theme.
Three posters, from all presented posters, will also be awarded prizes.
Abstracts should be submitted electronically by 5pm on May 19th, 2011 (see below for abstract guidelines).

Early career researchers are especially welcomed to apply for an oral presentation.
Abstract: Within the word limitation it should include the following:
Title: In sentence case
List of authors: followed by the place of work of each author, if the authors are from more than one location please use superscript numbering to indicate this e.g. McDonough SM1, Hurley D2 1 School of Health Sciences, University of Ulster, Newtownabbey, N Ireland. 2 School of Physiotherapy and Performance Sciences, UCD, Dublin, Ireland.
Background/aims: a brief introduction or rationale (why the study was undertaken); aim(s) of the study (what the study set out to find)
Methods: an outline of research method (how the study was done);
Results: a summary of main results, include data values here if relevant (what was found).
Conclusion: (what consequences follow).
References: A maximum of 2 references should be used

Please submit your 300 word abstract in either Word (old and new versions) or PDF format to the stream you feel is most appropriate.
