Digiquest Mailing List
Background
Following on from the successful and informative 'Digital Text
and Digital Image' colloquium, organised by Professor Pádraig
Ó Macháin under the auspices of the Dublin Institute for
Advanced Studies, an electronic mailing list entitled
'Digiquest' has been set up.
Purpose
The large number of academic projects involved in the
digitisation of materials pertaining to Ireland's literary,
linguistic, and visual history was highlighted at this
conference. It is intended that this mailing list should provide
a forum for ongoing discussion and exchange of ideas about any
aspect of digitisation for members of these projects.
Possible discussion topics include:
- Projects can inform members of the list about the current
status of their work, advise members of the existence of newly
digitised materials, and discuss the aims of their particular
project within the wider context of digitisation.
- Members can discuss their projects from a technical
perspective e.g. discuss the merits of using one markup
language over another.
- Theoretical topics will also be acceptable e.g. what are the
key differences between a digital and hard copy version of a
text?
Aim
The long term aims of the list include:
- Setting up a website where all such academic projects can
register and submit a project description, should they wish to
do so.
- To promote the use of digitised materials in the area of
wider scholarship and their role in e-education.
- To recognise the wealth of resources that currently exist in
a digitised form and to consider how each project can
co-operate to build on this existing foundation.
