The MA is a full-time programme running for 12 months from the date of first registration for the programme, but may, with the agreement of the Department, also be done on a part-time basis over 18 months.

Applicants must normally have attained at
least Second Class Honours in Greek and Roman Civilisation in the BA
Examination, or its equivalent.
Programme Requirements
Students take 90 credits as follows:
Part I
GR6001 Seminar I (15 credits)
GR6002
Seminar II (15 credits)
Latin or Greek Language (15 credits)*
Part II
GR6003 Dissertation (45 credits)
*Latin or Greek Language (15 credits)
Candidates for the MA
Degree in Greek and Roman Civilisation must obtain 15 credits in either
Greek or Latin language during their period of study for the MA
Degree as set out below.
(i) Students who enter with no previous knowledge of Greek or Latin
must take Ancient Greek/Latin (i.e. GK6001 or LT6001 15
credits).
(ii) Students who already have one language may take the
other at the same level (15 credits).
(iii) Students who already have
one language may alternatively take three Second/Third Year
modules at the appropriate level (15 credits).
(iv) Students who have
graduated in Greek and Roman Civilisation with Greek/Latin may either
take three further modules in the language already studied or take
the course in the other language or (if they already have that) three
further modules in the language in which they did not graduate.
(v) For
those taking a language the credits may be obtained by attending the first half
of the Summer School (GK6101 or LT6101 15 credits). For those who
already have one language, 10 of the 15 required credits at the Second Arts
level may be obtained by attending the latter half of the Summer School
(GK6002 or LT6002 5 credits; GK6003 or LT6003 or
LT6004 5 credits), plus 5 credits to be chosen in consultation with the
Head of the Department of Classics.
Note: The Seminar topics for 2010/2011 will be chosen according to the research interests of the available staff.
