This is an undergraduate degree programme aimed at distance-learning students, and is offered on a full-time or part-time basis (this will be contingent on the numbers of students wishing to pursue either the full-time or the part-time option: students will be notified towards the end of each preceding Level regarding same). ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Normally, applicants will be required to be at least 23 on 1st January of the year of enrolment and have at least two years' experience in either a voluntary or professional capacity in a rural development organisation.
Holders of the Diploma in Rural Development by Distance Learning (1996-2002 inclusive), awarded by any of the four constituent universities of the NUI, are eligible to proceed to Level Two of the proposed BSc (Hons) Rural Development.
LEVEL ONE UNIVERSITY EXAMINATION IN RURAL DEVELOPMENT (for students repeating Level One in 2012/13)
Level One of the programme is offered on a part-time basis. To be admitted to the Level One University Examination in Rural Development, a student must have satisfactorily attended prescribed modules to the value of 30 credits in Part A and 30 credits in Part B. Students must complete Part A before proceeding to Part B - i.e. 30 credits per year over two academic years. Students must complete modules to the value of 60 credits as follows:

Repeating Level One
Students taking Level One on a part-time basis must pass the Level One University Examination in Rural Development within four academic years from the date of first registration for Level One. Failure to comply with this rule would mean that the student would be ineligible to proceed further with his/her studies. Exceptions to this rule may be granted by the College, only for very serious reasons.
LEVEL TWO UNIVERSITY EXAMINATION IN RURAL DEVELOPMENT
No student may register for Level Two of the programme until the Level One University Examination in Rural Development has been passed. Note: Holders of the Diploma in Rural Development will be eligible to proceed directly to Level Two. Level Two consists of modules to the value of 30 credits in Part A and modules to the value of 30 credits in Part B. Students studying on a full-time basis will complete both Parts A and B - i.e. 60 credits - over one academic year; students studying on a part-time basis must complete Part A before proceeding to Part B - i.e. 30 credits per year - over two academic years. In order to be admitted to the Level Two University Examination in Rural Development, a student must have satisfactorily attended prescribed modules to the value of 60 credits as follows:
