The BA (Hons) in Chinese Studies Pathway is a four-year honours degree programme, the Third Year of which is spent studying courses at an approved institution in China.
To be eligible for the award of the BA (Hons) degree a student will be required to have achieved 240 credits by obtaining 60 credits in each of First, Second, Third and Fourth Arts (Chinese Studies). A student may not register for more than 60 credits in any one academic year.
In First Arts students take Chinese Studies plus three other subjects permitted by the timetable. See CK101 - The BA (Hons) programme for more details.
No student may register for the Second Arts (Chinese Studies) programme until he/she has passed the First University Examination in Arts. The selection of any module is conditional on the Professor or Lecturer concerned and the College being satisfied that a student is capable of profiting by attendance thereat. Students may not select modules which involve a timetable clash.
In Second Arts (Chinese Studies), students take Chinese Studies as a Major Subject (40 credits) or a Joint Subject (30 credits).
Major Subject: Modules amounting to 60 credits will be studied by combining 40 credits of Chinese Studies with 20 credits from one of the following subjects passed at the First University Examination, as appropriate: Celtic Civilisation, Economics, English, French, Gaeilge/Irish, Geography, Greek and Roman Civilisation, History, History of Art, Italian, Portuguese, Religions and Global Diversity, Sociology, Spanish, Studies in Music (note: this subject is availabe to students entering Second Arts in 2012/13 only and will not be available to students entering Second Arts from 2013/14 onwards), Studies in Psychology (for notes regarding specific subjects see Table 2).
Joint Subject: Modules amounting to 60 credits will be studied by combining 30 credits of Chinese Studies with 30 credits from one of the following subjects passed at the First University Examination, as appropriate: Applied Mathematics, Celtic Civilisation, Economics, English, French, Gaeilge/Irish, Geography, Greek and Roman Civilisation, History, History of Art, Italian, Philosophy, Religions and Global Diversity, Sociology, Spanish Table 2).
Change of Module
All applications for change of module must
be completed online, using the REGISTRATION AMENDMENT online facility, by
Friday, 12 October 2012. No changes in registration will be allowed after
this deadline.
Examinations
Full details of regulations governing Examinations for each programme will be contained in the Marks and Standards 2013 Book, and for each module in the Book of Modules, 2012/2013.
Students must pass the Second University Examination in Arts (Chinese Studies) within three academic years from the date of first registration for Second Arts (Chinese Studies). Failure to comply with this rule means that the student will be ineligible to proceed further with his/her studies.
