Science and Humour

It might be thought that the basic nature of science allows no place for humour to play a part. While it may be true that humour has little to do with the formal procedures through which science makes its advances – indeed the same could be said of the relationship between humour and law, engineering, medicine, and so on – nevertheless humour plays an important indirect role and most scientists have a keen sense of humour. As will be evident from the detail in this section, Albert Einstein took great pleasure from coining witty marks.

A sense of humour is generally helpful in the cultivation of a facility for lateral thinking which is useful in science. Also, it is well established that the regular enjoyment of humour is good for one’s general health.
