Curium
Curium, Cm, is a radioactive transuranic metallic element, found in the
actinide series of inner transition metals in
Group IIIa of the
periodic table.
- Atomic Number : 96
- Relative Atomic Mass : 247 (most stable isotope, half life 16,000,000 years)
- Melting Point : 1340 degC
- Relative Density : 13.5
There are nine known isotopes.
Discovery
Curium was first identified by G.T. Seaborg
and his associates in 1944AD.
Uses
Curium in the form of Curium-242 is used in isotopic power
generators as it produces about 3 watts heat energy /gm due
to radioactive decay.
