Berzelius in 1828AD.
Occurrence
Thorium occurs in
- Thorite, ThSiO4, and
- Thorianite, ThO2.UO2.

Thorium is used
- as a nuclear fuel,
- in mantles for gas lamps.,
- in the manufacture of high refractive index glass,
- in catalysts for the oxidation of ammonia to nitric acid.
